argue all you want, you can even ban me from here about it, but it's still going away. you're going to have to learn to love the game without it. it does nothing but break everything (especially terrain maps) for a player's advantage. no sense on keeping it, and all of the commercial games after q3a had the cvar disabled.

with bright models i dont care about vertex or not...
oa hasnt improved since i play it (0.6)

Huh? Why would you get banned? I dont see how it is an advantage at all. I find using vertex a big disadvantage. It's possible to use vertex in lightmap mode. I don't see what all the fuss is about why this has become such a big issue. If anything, it would be the failures of the map makers to consider balanced lighting etc to compensate. Who knows what kind of config a map maker uses to test it. Many of these maps are/were designed for pm skins :) I guess you may have figured that a variety of maps loaded onto servers may not be suitable for OA, but people must like them, and I assume they use the 'workaround' bright skin.

Are you leilol? If you are then I'm sure the pm skins will be enough to compensate for the people who use vertex. If that was made clear from the beginning there might not have been such opposing opinions, aka the 'whiners'.

Awww, I ripped the Q3 CPMA models from my q3 installation, put them into a q3-models.pk3, but they don't work in OA (shaders?). At least the q3-sounds work on unpure servers \o/
Now I am actually able again, to HEAR, when someone picks up RA/MH.

Suggestion for a future releason: Distinguishable RA/MH- Pickupsounds that are more than a "click"

You know the main use of vertex lightning is for old computers. No don't say they aren't spread, many people plays with laptops or recuperated machines running posix OSes. And for me this is the main advantage of this engine: it has still good graphics without using too much resources.

If you so love how the games after Q3A are handled, why don't you use engines based on these games ? As far as I know, OpenArena is a project made to free Quake 3 Arena, I didn't know it was meant to be a modified game as Warsow...

yeah, damn nexuiz!!! it's based on quake!!! damn it they suck they should have looked like quake!!!! what gives them the right to improve the gfx and throw us 100mhzers away!!! i mean god damn they're evolving and advancing!!! i don't like that at all!!!! all hail the abacus

Never meant that OA shouldn't evolve, or that it should be like Quake 3. But I believed it wasn't meant to be a modification of Quake 3, rather a free alternative as in free will and free beer. Now it's normal to add functionnalities, I'm totally with you on this point, but not remove. Users should still have the choice (like for glowing lights and new gamemodes). Removing can too be a wise choice, but I don't think here that the benefits will overwhelm the malus it will cause to a large userbase.

But it seems you are doing this for a better multiplayer game. So why not call a vote ? If players aren't bothered, there wouldn't be any point to do that change.

well 'use vertexlight' is synonymous with 'use fullbright'. Ever wondered why r_fullbright 1 doesn't work in Quake multiplayer? It's cheaty and vertex light usage in 2008 is no different. No one has poor enough hardware to warrant the use of vertexlight anymore (designed for Riva128s, RagePros, and Voodoo1/Banshee)

I can run Nexuiz fine at max better than both of those games
