Heh, Virgin bought NTL a while back, that's why. I'm bound to my 12 months contract, don't know what to do...it's never been good, but man, lately it's just unbearable.

Just force-complain about their shitty service... tell them that you run a business and that you can't work like this... tell them that it is 2008... or something... and don't switch to British Telecom... they seem to have a legendary track of pissed customers... there are whole youtube videos where people complain how much BT sucks...

here it has become customary that (cellphone-/internet-) provider A buys you out of the contract with provider B... you'll have to agree to a longer contract with provider A then... but when it's good it might be worth it...

the right word for the german "invention" fast path is interleaving.
the telekom used it per default and you had to pay to get rid of it. other ISP
dont have it. (dont know if fast path still exists...)
interleaving makes only sense on really bad connections with a huge packetloss.
btw, i hadnt any lag the last days :)

You should contact your Virgin ISP (pun intended) and tell them to fcku off!
On the other hand, when you are talking to them, tell them to disable error-correction on TCP/IP, you have the right to request that as a customer and it should give you better latency/ping.
Quote::
I think it was disabling the error correction of the DSL connection since the TCP/IP protocol does it anyways and it is redundant when both do it...

Hey, guys, could you expand this a bit? I never heard of that thing, but I have to do something with these bastards. The problem is, as I said, that the speed tests give me the right values, it's the latency what's shit. I don't think there's anything in the contract mentioning this. In other words, I pay for certain download/upload rates and that's it...

I guess you can hear any sort of war stories depending who you speak to. I before was with BT and had not much problems, but I was paying for more of everything...Shit, I should've taken up one of those local providers especialized in business, I heard they're pretty good although a bit more expensive (hey, but OA is not just a game, we're talking serious here).

Ok afaik know I hav interleaving low, so that the latency is almost as low as having fastpath (btw this is only a word marketing name). My adsl connection is always fast and stable enough so I don't need to complain for anything. But it's better to blame technique problems by the ISP instead of overtweaking the cfg file ;)

Those settings are something that all experienced players use, and the new players who don't; they complain about lag.
We should make a mega-super-extra-powerful-ultimate-ping.pk3 with them settings included, right Jack? :)

Make sure you don't have MSN/AIM etc running in the background. That usually creates lag every 10-15 secs.

Seriously though, you should record a little, and let us have a look :>

What we really need is what time when this happens, and on which server, without that there is NOTHING we can do as ALL statistics, resources and settings are working perfectly as they should.

The problem with lag is that it's usually not there all the time but occurs when there are other things running in the background. I have checked everything for faults, so has Jack, but we cannot find anything causing these intermittent and random lags.

One thing that crossed my mind though was the furver backup -> backup server. Jocke, can you confirm the times that this backup is running and for how long it usually takes?

thx... i'll take this and report it to the host...

i also removed all g_logsync and g_logfilesync from the config files and replaced the nohup.out files with symlinks to /dev/null

so hd i/o can't be the cause...
