Snoo you are right with with the 20 ms, but you have a lot of things on
your machine with delays so it just sums up.
the ping thing is, that there is a difference between what you expect and what you actually have on the screen.
in any way your reaction cant be faster than 50 ms! (this doesnt mean that you have a good gaming experience with 50 ms latency)

edit: read sth about the OODA-Loop
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...op#Example

Still, I doubt that you can feel the difference of 5 miliseconds. Or can you?

Well it depends....

If i play on a server with ping 0 and on another with ping 20 and i have cg_truelightning 1 (and the other players have also a decent or good connection and everyone uses med(60) or high(100+) cl_maxpackets), i'd barely notice any difference, even the difference is 20ms.

On the other side I do notice the difference between ping 30 and 40, and especially the difference between 50 and 60. (Especially with shaft & rail:F)

I fail to notice the difference between 120 and 130 thou. :C

i dont think that anyone can feel the difference of 5 ms in reality
but when we talk about a game with its discrete physics (think about the fps dependencies on the way you move) it can result in a larger difference.
plus: combine the latencies of your mouse, client, screen, network...
you get indeed an effect on gameplay
thats a reason why most of the progamers still use the good old fast CRT-screens

Seems I'm to insensitive. But I agree on CRT screens. LCD's are better in every way but speed. Even the 2ms response panels cant change that.

everyone uses med(60)

I'm considering this as a forced setting.

Good players will be able to tell. If I fake the pings for the whiners they will be happy too.

2ms but on 60/75hz... doesnt really matter

plus, 2ms is more like 8ms at best.

Yes, it's good that I changed my 19" CRT with a 20" LCD when I was a total n00b back then. If I had done it today I would never be satisfied with playing q3a/oa on it. :)

If you want to use timenudge:
Don't set it higher than 12 or 13 ms (/cl_timenudge -13), if you set it higher, you will just see other people "warp" more.
Also if you use any value beside 0, disable client smoothing (/cg_smoothclients 0), or it will cancel the timenudge-effect, only creating lag.
If you dont want to use timenudge, you can set cg_smoothclients 1

If you set it to -10, it will draw the enemy where it is assumed he will be in 10ms. But setting it higher than like 13 ms is useless. (You want to set a negative value. If you set it too high, like -15 or -20, the upper line in your lagometer will turn yellow)

You enable the lagometer with cg_lagometer 1

This means your timenudge is too high:
(The upper line has many yellow dots)

This means your timenudge is ok:
(Most dots in the upper line are blue)

if you want to use it, set cg_smoothclients 0. Otherwise it will not work, only make you warp more.

It's not recommend to set cl_timenudge higher than -25 (so your simulated ping ~ 40-70 ms). Otherwise your opponent will lag on your display. And plz don't set cl_maxpackets 30 (will cause that u lag for others!) 63 or 100 is also ok if u want to hav a lower ping on your scorebord ;P

I agree, use com_maxfps 125 and cl_maxpackets 125 or cl_maxpackets 63. Don't use 30 packets, its only for modem-users and will make you lag more.

Ok, I installed 0.7.7 now.

What are these cvars? (google search for cg_delag + openarena wasnt helpful)

cg_delag
g_delagHitscan

Oh and, I also hate, that when i Quit OA 0.7.7, it doesn't set my gamma back. So my windows is so bright, my eyes are bleeding, unless i reboot after a match.. lol

My gamma goes back to normal. Check for newer drivers, and if in windows use crap cleaner and tuneup utilities to clean the registry n' stuff.
