now I know why Spl1ng votes the maps he votes: he has seen this w3sp-strafe movie and and wants to beat him :hihi:
no offence, but what w3sp is doing here are totally insane runs and moves and often inventive routes he takes on the maps.
Best strafing I've seen so far :|

need the divx plugin to work, but top-quality.

Great video work. If people dont know these maps.. and cannot see the movement in relation to speed and acceleration.. then its a pity only a small minority will appreciate it. Even then, the fov makes it even more difficult to appreciate control. For sure, its a great vid and artistic. I just guess this video is made for interest to the defrag community.

The model is bones.. its probably the most stupid looking thing out of all of them :D Its also difficult for me to watch people using that model doing serious stuff because.. well... I will admit that when I was a complete noob I thought i would be harder to hit being a skinny little thing, I think alot of people thought the same too playing on the instagib servers but they are not going to be shouting about it. :D.. That model is also one of the easiest models to hear from a distance. Ah well, we live and learn.. :D

seen it, I'm not impressed. :(

Most of it is complicated team tricking and as I don't do team tricks I can't evaluate that. It looks hard to manage tricks with five and more people, but I can't see the skillz when so much people participate in a trick. looks more complicated than impressive to me :/

but there are few single user tricks and 3 fastcaps in it (even team-fastcaps) that are nice and the editing is lovely. So it is definitely well done and nice to watch.

I still like well done defrag run movies better, like
CZSK2007 The Best Of movie www.quakeunity.com/file=2518
Quote::
- defrag run movie from czsk best competition called CZSK2007
- all maps are twice, one in cpm and one in vq3 physic
- fast dnb music with great quality and editing
- mainly 1st person camera work for better study differences of both physics
- super 720p version and new style of colors/quality/editing what you saw in my previous movies

or a mostly single trick freestyle movie like
Live II Fly www.quakeunity.com/file=2501
with a lot of slowmo
Quote::
This is the essence of pure freestyle trickjumping. It is the result of tens of thousands of attempts, countless hours-long sessions, and over four years of experience in the field.

There is no trickery nor confusion here; we do not feel the need to play around with or mislead our viewers. It is with great distress that I come to the realization that the place for pure freestyle is subsiding in favor of methods such as timescale manipulation and the use of complicated macros.

Hehe...all models hav the same hitbox. Same in the early Q3 times it was a stupid rumour that using keel as an enemymodel would be easier for aiming. But finally most gamers prefer him as keel/pm model bcuz of his loud noizes. No compare to the skinny, gloomy bone dude ;P

hmm.. But you didnt mention if YOU thought the same too, and had once selected bones. I didn't think about it much, and i realised it probably made no difference whatsoever.

But... you have splash damage on alot of insta servers, especially ones with a little lag. I think the default radius is 120 but other servers have more. So if you think about it, Keel really does have a larger hitbox. The splash area outwith the hibox is same for both keel and bones.. but are you seriouslly going to be aiming for bones so far away that its a clear miss.

I once tried something playing around with bots, i'll see if i can find the vid

btw.. i watched w3sps vid in full and have a rather different opinion of it. I liked his running around the map thing at the end. I guess thats to prove a point in some regards :)

Well to be honest I've never thought about bigger models like keel insist on bigger hitboxes. It's just the psychological point>larger visual target=better for aim =) In defrag it doesn't matter anyway. Bone is just a funny & conspicuous model :hoho:

would you please say a bit more on it? =)

I know Spl1ng also doesn't like it and said once that w3sp uses scripts (stair script). But my nooby eyes can't see anything like that. :oh:

I know some people bind +strafe to a key, so they can handle air movement after OBs better. I don't know why one would need such extra binds. I'm sure it could be also done without that. Are you referring to such things?

Well if you want to turn your angle very quickly where any slow movement has no effect then you could use yaw speed to get there quicker. So by binding or using yaw speed in a script is an example of how you could improve certain movements.

However, doing so would be difficult to calculate further actions or include a series of movements because you would need to calculate angles and do some maths based on the previous move. So I guess using quick binds that could be used at certain moments could help.

I can't imagine that anyone would goto such lengths unless it was a single or couple of jumps.

I dont know much about it but my friend is a maths expert.. he was showing me his calculations and stuff and done a simple example to prove it :)

I dont have any comment on w3sp other than his vids have made me a much better player, or less crap perhaps because he taught me how to move better, and run like hell to stay alive. :)

It's not all psychological but know what ya mean

q3eu.com/flash/streams_em.html

Look at this stream. On an insta rail game.. there is often a level of splash.. so that area is outwith the green box which makes that box even bigger. One time on a server with larger splash area I remember someone telling me to hit near them. I did, and done much better. Now, if my enemy model was bones.. then I dont think anyone can argue that you are less likely to press shoot when you are not on target.

On the other hand. If you were to use tankjr as enemymod without splash you get the feeling you hit him, but miss.. because your hitting an area which just at the limit of the box. Maybe thats why keel is popular, along with the reasons you mentioned.

Is that a cheat?.. is it an advantage? Is doing 2 jumps with a bind and gaining lots of speed a cheat? What if that person took out the easy parts and left a yaw change bind? Would he still be cheating. If so, then is the guy who has a mouse with switchable speed cheating? Then would mouse zoom be a cheat?

When I play I hit glowing marks at spawn points with long rail trail to remind me where to turn my angle on open maps. I react to sound but have no aim.. so I just try and wait a little, hope the other player doesnt hit me then i will hit him just after the spawn. I gives me a tiny bit of time to aim a shot because i make marks on the ground. Is that a cheat?

It goes on and on. ITS DRIVING ME MAD !! But when W1z mentioned that my 1.6 gamma may even be a cheat I couldnt take it anymore :) But then he gave me the answer and it's only at geeky lan parties where you can play and providing everyone has the same settings, then noone is cheating. So then I can relax and realiase we all cheat. It's a game and it's fun to me. If someone says a good strafer is cheating then I would only find that acceptable if he was at the same level, yet had difficulty with a very difficult move. I would understand that the guy may believe he had some advantage and I would expect the guy had to proof or backbone to his claim. But if someone is claiming others to cheat who are nowhere near the same standard then they should really think about improving themselves and try enjoy themselves.

I stopped using enemy models and I am trying to get back to the days where it was a good laugh... I was shit.... but I was happy :D

Strangely enough.. only last night I found a post from someone my friend wurst who is very experienced with q3 from the start and I'm glad I seen this, as it backs up w1z's statement..

I have no idea why and how he starts going on about an invisible bike. I just thought it looked crazy so kept it in hehe...

Quote: By Crazy Wurst from q3ana.de...

u know whats sure proof against cheating?
hehe.
3 letters: LAN
everybody official config and same mouse, comparable machines and no latency.
no missunderstandings are possible, and if theres stress theres alcohol hehe.
plus u can share all the pornos and mp3.
u guys must organize some day, its not so hard to get network equipped, just the traveling and a bigger location are hard to get.
(and a termin where everybody has time sure...)

ah wurst make novel again hihi

the reason that i dont kick people that hack their own gamma and texture settings cause i cant simply proove and theres so many.
see, he thinks thats no cheat, even if he gets the double frags from that.
"nooooo im not unfair"
thats what i hear from so many people that do so. i tell u what:
its like joining a marathon but with invisible bike. its unfair and theres just no way to remove them. to show it in forums is just unbelievable.
and people see just 1 marathon sportsman that move like sitting on invisible bike. sure.
in games wheres possibility to control (like valve games) even a gamma modification mean permanent ban on EVERY server.
that guys destroy their monitors by tune them more light.

i mean thats no reason for me to do it too. i puke on all u "profis" and stay clean. i collect skills not technologies to win a game.
and when i loose ok, i can live with that. i mean how poor honk u have to be to use such things secretly and call then all others noobs.
i wanna game, if id like to win i could do so many things, specially with the 1.15c the connected client is pretty pwned by the server.

In regards to w3sp and the accusations that he is cheating, that would be something for discussion boards where he is present and can defend himself in my opinion. He has been banned from previous defrag world-cup tournaments, make your own conclusions and speculate.

As most trickers, defraggers, will tell you, scripting is allowed to a certain extent and this is usually +strafe and a rocketjump script. But it also depends on who you talk to, some people consider rjump scripts, or even intensity settings to be cheats.
