Hi

I'm having a good time learning GTKradiant and I absolutely love that toy. I have some basic questions about it:

When I fire up the texture browser I can see that it includes the textures from my baseoa directory. Is it including also textures from maps I have never opened in GTKradiant? My concern here is that if it did, I would have a nice mess of GPL and non-GPL textures since I have downloaded a good amount of maps from the Rainbow servers, which I believe use a different license...

I'm modifying Ce1m7, a map whose looking I like probably because it remotely reminds me of Colosseum from Q2. When I compile it I have noticed two things:

-Torches in the basement have no flares (I actually prefer it this way, though).
-Rockets do not light some dark walls which I've introduced.

If somebody could give me some information about this it would be great.

hi kernel_panic,

yes, i'm afraid that gtkradiant uses all the textures from any pk3 in baseoa, whether it's gpl or not. this can be a problem.

what you can do to stop this is rename your openarena folder to something else and unpack a fresh copy of openarena in it's place. leave the new one alone and let gtkradiant use it for the textures and use your old copy for actual gaming.

i'm not so sure about the flares thing, but i think that's something you have to add specially.

hi kernel_panic,

I was so sure it would be you replying in no time that I left the site opened just to check your answer. Anyway, I think I'll dowload another OA copy so I can work with no worries and play at the same time. OTOH, I'm sure I read something about the flares thing somewhere, I'll have to dig again in the OA forums for it.

[edit] Installed another copy of OA and gtkradiant would still pick those textures up. The reason is that the autodownload feature puts them in your /home/username/.openarena/baseoa directory, which is read by radiant as well. I just moved those .pk3 to where I have my OA and everything is OK now.

Off topic now, I found this thread in map-center where somebody provided a link to an american architecture school where you can dowload three maps made for the quake engine which are replicas of actual buildings. You'll find there the map Chartres, which I believe was the initial inspiration for dONKEY to make his Amiens map.

Here's the thread of map-center:

And here's the direct link to Knowlton School of Architecture:

See you around and thanks.
