here is a pk3 with my favourite crosshair .. wont work on pure servers ..
so here is a bind:

//8 on unpure servers to use this crosshair, 9 for a well sized dot (for the pure servers)
bind 8 "set cg_drawcrosshair "2" ; set cg_crosshairsize "12"
bind 9 "set cg_drawcrosshair "4" ; set cg_crosshairsize "42"

Call me traditional, but I prefer the single point in the centre and nothin more...it doesn't distract me. After I got used to it everything else seems over the top.

would it be possible to write a shader for a crosshair that negates the background colors? so it is always visible?

i don't know enough about shaders and q3ase doesn't really work in wine...

Circle-dot combo is the best crosshair ever to be invented!

Doesn't it? It seems to work mostly fine here, although I didn't do much fancy stuff.

As a cheap workaround, you could have a crosshair consisting in two concentric circles, one of them white and the other black...or a white point and a black cross/circle...

one of the oa_ctf maps (2, 3, 4, ?) is just so ugly I cant see any crosshair on it.
the floor is too bright and with all the sky black you have too much contrast and loose the feeling for distances...I don't thing your suggestion would work there kernel. the crosshair would become too big

oa_ctf2 got retextured, now its so bright with vertexlightning, but with low gamma you cant spot enemymodels in the sky on servers without brightskins..crappy map anyway

What about a single circle divided in 8 equal arcs, four of them white and four of them black?
Code::
    _
 / \
| |
 \ _ /

Black:

/ \

\ /

White:

   _

| |
   _

Not that I think this would give you much advantage...or that this whole stuff is worth much consideration...

It appears, i'm not the only one who is literally blind on that freaking map, unless the enemy is mid-air...

in the 080 release were crosshairs in all 8 console colors... they got removed again because they were tga's and not shaders..

I actualy think they were removed by accident, that's what I heard second hand anyway. Though no reason we can't re-include them on rainbow servers?
