I have already collected a mass of defrag maps and now I reached a limit of files so OA is unable to start the mod. Mayb there's any solution for this problem without deleting any maps? :/

hmm... strange... the RN|CPM RUNS server caches 1100+ pk3 files.. it refused to start yesterday because of pornstar-lamba or pornstar-slopin... dunno... i deleted both maps and the server worked again...

both maps don't contain any strange stuff... no other files than bsp, shader and textures... so dunno how that could have caused problems...

400 maps is far too early for the client to give up IMO... split the collected mass of defrag maps in two and move one aside (without deleting them) and find out yourself which map is causing your problem... and report it here :)

or so...

Linux or Windows ?

For windows , dfengine 1.02 doesn't have that limit ... but it cannot be used for OA

Here's the patch for q3 1.32c :

Code::
Index: code/win32/win_main.c
===================================================================
--- code/win32/win_main.c	(revision 6)
+++ code/win32/win_main.c	(revision 42)

 	}

+	// Cgg - max number of open files at the crt level
+	_setmaxstdio(2048);
+	// !Cgg
+

 	g_wv.hInstance = hInstance;
 	Q_strncpyz( sys_cmdline, lpCmdLine, sizeof( sys_cmdline ) );

In the OA071 sources the file is different ( it should be code/win32/win_shared.c ) and the solution should be to add " _setmaxstdio(2048); " somewhere in the code and recompiling the engine.

EDIT : in the oa 070 sources the file is the same so the patch can be applied as it is .

In linux it can be (maybe) enough to high the maximum number of filedescriptors (ulimit -n)

you sure know you can repack maps

if not, here are some tools
www.breakdown-hq.com/i...load&cat=3

I used pk3s to pk3. installs smoth with WINE or standard windows, has an idiotproof GUI and did its job quite well for me.

Hm the merged maps into one pk3 can't be loaded (e.g. pornstar.pk3) :/

sry to hear arqon (:(

hmm.. I only used it on some competition maps (like rdfcomp and cjscomp maps) so I reduced those maps to single comp.pk3 files.
haven't had any problems :oh:

I've cross-compiled some win32 binaries from oa076 sources (ioquake3svn1288) with the "_setmaxstdio(2048);" patch ... I had not test them and I don't really know if they work.

Worked well since I got this error message

edit: found out that this was a map specific error message...nevertheless your patch avoids the >400 pks bug THX! =)
