(stuff about NoScript)

Look at that...it may be why FF feels quicker than all the others in many websites...Opera, for instance, renders very fast, but sites take a while to load...One more reason to keep using it.

What was this thread about again?

For instance, I clicked on the first clip in this thread. That thought me a lesson not to click on any other vid in this thread again. :)

Also, FF behaves wierd on the work pc. I mean, occupying my cpu 100% for a few minutes while theres only a few flashing banners around isent cool at all. Then when you go to task manager and see that it also spreads through the ram like cancer, realy makes me doubt if its "that" good of a browser.

Oh, shit, we're trapped in a circular conversation...Go ahead, Falk, it's your turn now (again).

Adblock works exactly like flashblock ... ads are avoided to be rendered not to be loaded ... but ... lol ... there's was a time I needed also adblock plus to be installed ... ( I use Minefield , nightly development version of firefox ) XD

Quote from Giorgio Maone , the author of Noscript on the Mozilla Forum

Quote::

...
That's a weird trunk bug: apparently if NoScript is installed, the "window.top" standard DOM property gets undefined (don't ask me how) and breaks a callback from the Flash movie, unless (and this is the really weird part) AdBlock Plus is installed and enabled for that page
...

But it was a bug of DOM implementation ( a firefox bug ) that is declared now as fixed.

There's an alternative way to definitely block ads and/or unwanted URLs : put them in the file /etc/hosts ( or equivalent for windows ... I dont' remember the exact location ) with the following syntax :

Code::
...
<ads_domain>	CNAME	127.0.0.1
...

In this way ads urls are blocked at DNS level , 'cause the browser ( or any other program ) will point to loopback interface when it requests for that/those unwanted url/urls .

Actually, I'm glad you ask, because on top of NoScript I use Privoxy:

Quote::
Privoxy is a non-caching web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for enhancing privacy, modifying web page data, managing HTTP cookies, controlling access, and removing ads, banners, pop-ups and other obnoxious Internet junk. Privoxy has a flexible configuration and can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes.

Even if you don't configure anything, the defaults are quite sane and make your life a lot easier when browsing the jungle. It also does some trickery to avoid downloading junk in the first place (as opposed to just not rendering it). Available for Linux, Mac, Windows, FreeBSD and Amiga!

And the most important thing ( for me ) ... it has an easy support for forwarding requests on a socks4/5 connection ... XD

But if u want much more and u have an unused PC , u can try to setup a squid cache

Here are two simple tutorials :

1. Linux: Setup a transparent proxy with Squid in three easy steps

2. Web ADV: Die! ... LoL
