got the urge to do some mapping so i made a very basic de_dust clone.

here's the pk3

here's the zipped map file

since gtkradiant is still acting buggy i don't have any clipping tool, so i couldn't put any slopes in. i've just dropped big blocks there instead. i'll probably make them in blender instead.

not sure what i'm going to do with this map since it's a rip-off of an existing map, so it's not really suitable for gpling. i suppose i could just use it as something to play with and try experimental stuff on.

the counter-strike team-based map is definitely the way i want to go though. with the team elimination game mode and the right maps there could be some good strategic games, which is more interesting to me than plain deathmatch.

I think this seems like a neat idea drawing inspiration from other games.

If you have reverse engineered the map from it's original, then it is copyrighted material and thus protected but if you've done the map on your own measurements with only inspiration from the original map, then you can release it as GPL.

Nobody can shoot you for drawing inspiration from sources unless the source is a patent.

rashdawg- thanks.

w1zrd- it's not reverse engineered and i'm probably going to change the layout of the map as i go along anyway. i just wanted something i knew worked as a starting point.

kernel_panic - any chance you could do me a favour and clip the blocks into slopes? it would be a great help. :)

Er...what is it you want me to clip? I don't know the original map so you better give me a clue or something. Perhaps you could apply caulk texture to the brushes you want to be clipped? An indication of the direction and slope would be cool too, but I'm not sure how you could do that.

there are 4 slopes that i need. i've textured them with that stripy texture. if you could clip them from the top corner down to where they meet the ground that would be great.

here's the latest version with stairs instead of ramps. it's still got ambient lighting, so i might start tackling that next.

dust-012.pk3

the map file is in the pk3.
