I also heard that with quake 3 you could hold the middle mouse button down and move the mouse back and forth to fast forward or rewind the demo is that true, and is it in oa?

]/cvarlist *avi*
cl_forceavidemo "0"
A cl_aviMotionJpeg "1" <- i'd set it to 0, to create an uncompressed avi
A cl_aviFrameRate "25" <- fps rate, 30 recommended, 60 results in too big file

---

i'd not record the avi while playing. rather record an ordinary demo, and later then turn the demo into an uncompressed avi. oterwise it will stutter a lot.
make sure you turn it into an uncompressed file first, so you can still work with the scenes, like cutting them, adding stuff without quality loss. just compress it in the end.

you could use virtualdub to put the scenes together and then compress it with like divx or mpeg.

Virtualdub

it really easy:

after you added all parts by drag & drop or just -> fild add, select video > full processing mode, and then video > compression and select a filter and quality. same for audio (MPEG Layer 3, 56 kbit/s, 22khz, stereo gives ok-quality with low size).

about the scrolling thinkg:

scrolling backward is not possible, since the demo is streamed. you can change the speed thou, by setting /timescale.

for instance you could make a config called democonfig.cfg, and exec it before converting the demo into an .avi, containing the following:

exec highquality.cfg //maximal graphicical beauty shit
cg_draw2D "0" //hide all HUD-info
cl_noprint "1" //hide all console-output
cg_smoothclients "1" //we need this, to avoid stutter when in slow-mo
bind F1 "timescale 0.25" //mega slow motion
bind F2 "timescale 0.5" //slow-mo
bind F3 "timescale 1" //normal speed
bind F4 "timescale 3" //fast forward
bind F5 "timescale 8" //quick fast forward
//here you can add your record-script:

I'd advise anyone who likes VirtualDub to check Avidemux out. It is far easyer to use and can handle variable bitrates and every codec there is. :D

Thanks for the replies but i left the demo rendering over night, so I ended up using gq3.cfg (From Get Quaked Three). I wouldn't worry about quality loss because it was recorded at 50 fps, and ended up being around 16 gigabytes \:D/. For editing I use Sony Vegas.

It was a test :p... but yeah entire thing well be done soon, and this render is for youtube so it will have to be at 320 by 240 and 15fps. Otherwise the quality looks horrible.

Try google vid if you want the quality a little better. It's avi codecs

video.google.com/video...1067&hl=en

This was a wmv file of only 15 mb but hell of alot better than youtube would render

Hehe google video, i was thinking more along the lines of extreme quality, you know... High Definition.

Alpaca slide show in hd : alpaca pictures

Quake 4 sucks... in HD Smooth No one plays this \:D/

Best HD quality on the internet : Amazing!

I also heard Veoh ,Daily Motion,Live Video were pretty good but personally i haven't tried them.

I can host them if you like. I use flash VP6, which is good for quality. You kind of download and play at the same time.

I dont have the best connection but these play ok on my system without much lag.

q3eu.com/modules.php?n...ag_streams

the first w3sp one is the best quality I'll get, all the others are much less

On second thought, yup, your a mad man. I dont have that much space. About 22 is a good value. I find it's better to save it as a very high quality avi file, so the file size is still very high, then edit.. after editing compress it to divx in one go. It'll give you the best quality for size of file. If you want to edit parts use the original large file.

LOL of course im going to compress it :hoho: , who's crazy enough to upload 16 gb in raw files ;P . Those videos look amazing, but vegas doesn't export to vp6 flv. And encoding and compressing it over and over again worsens the quality. So i guess im going to have to wait and see... Back to editing!
