Since yesterday evening I hav noticed that on RN|1on1#1 Aggressor the plasma gun splash looks very slow while shooting on the wall (takes a while until the splash disappears) It's only on this server. Maybe sum1 should restart the server to solve that problem?

That was a really strange problem..
The server is rebooted and the problem fixed, thanks for reporting it.

I'm not a picmip 5 player but in order to have better performance I would like to change the plasma gun splash. In Q3A or CPMA it looks nice to me. I hav already tried to change the plasmaa data from the sprite folder into the OA pak0.pk3 Unfortunatly it didn't work after modifying. Could anyone help?

on a similar note. stand close to the wall and fire the shotgun while moving sideways. on my system it makes the graphics lag terribly, anyone else get this?

@sxe, I know it is possible to change the plasma sprite alone, but I haven't done it myself. Question then is, how would a new plasma affect playing on pure servers?

@hyp3rfocus, the 'lag' that comes from shooting plasma against a wall is due to the animation it has. Simply put, it is rather resource intense on the graphical side and it is your FPS that drops so low that it feels like lag. Similar effect will be if you shoot with the shotgun while standing next to a wall, that brings your FPS down to 10-15 in most cases, unless you have a 2 months new video card.

It won't work bcuz pure servers don't allow modified files?... Mayb the OA developers can think about changing the plasma sprite.
The point is the behaviour of the splash: In OA it spreads out in all directions: When u play Q3A or CPMA u see that the splash only turns in a small circle; then it disappears quickly. Sometimes it's a bit annoying when I got spanked with Plasma Gun and all around my fov this blue mess :|

Not sure how they would stand in regards to a new animation for it, it might also be that it's already on the way since many of the weapons might have a new look in upcoming versions due to the missionpack.

Yep but only when I stand still with shotgun while shooting. Despite of that in Q3A I hav noticed that there's neither weapon lag nor FPS decrease (same cfg and same hardware!). All in all the original games feels a bid more smooth. The OA developers should really work on it

Model for bullets impact are incredibly high poly for what they are... To me, it was a bad idea to put so much triangles just for that.

The same I have here (obviously). The thing is that "just that" is basically nothing at all. I can't see anything that justifies the whatever number of particles the shotgun effect uses. Can't we cut it down somehow without breaking anything compatibility wise? At least perhaps in our maps...

until a particle system is implemented, this has to do for now

in the meanwhile r_lodBias 3 to get low poly impacts. (and everything else)

The plasma splash is no problem on older cards like the voodoo2. wtf card r u usng!
